Saving the Planet (Adventures in Tupperware)

So a friend (Hi, Meredith!) recently asked me, "hey, so what's with the tupperware thing?"

NOTE: Before reading further, know that this post has very little to do with my music, except for the fact that it partially underwrites my musical gallavanting across the country.

Anyway, so Meredith says, "hey, so what's with the tupperware thing?"

My email signature and this very myspace profile both reference a new website that I've set up. Meredith noticed this, and ascertained that I was selling something - that I was involved in some sort of evil scheme rife with closets full of unsold inventory and predatory sales parties at the homes of all of my unsuspecting friends.

Okay, maybe she didn't see it all that ominously. Maybe she's just a naturally curious person. ;)

Regardless, there is some truth to it. Yes, I AM selling something. I admit it. I am selling something. But I'm only selling it by accident. I was talking about it all the time anyway, so I decided I might as well get paid to do it. (Sometimes the whole 'get paid' concept takes a little longer for me to work out).

So yeah, Meredith says, "hey, so what's with the tupperware thing?"

And then I didn't want to tell her about it right away because I didn't want her to think that I was selling something (I am) and I'm from Minnesota (it's true) and we're amazingly good at finding guilt in every situation, especially if said situation involves getting paid (money is the root of all evil).

But the truth of the matter is, even though I'm selling something, I believe in the company and their strategy for Green Business Practices. (They were the first company in the world to be certified with a net-zero impact on the environment due to green practices).

I believe in their products (non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, earth friendly, inexpensive, efficiently packaged to keep landfill waste to a minimum).

AND, I believe in their business model (people helping people to clean up the planet & make homes safe and non-toxic).

You've probably figured out that I'm NOT selling tupperware.

"Hey, so what's with the tupperware thing," says Meredith.

It ain't no tupperware, baby, it's Shaklee.

You should check it out. I won't force ya. I don't want you to buy one single, solitary thing unless this company, its mission, and its products speak to you somehow.

Love,
Kel

P.S. I do have a strange fascination with tupperware. I really love tupperware. But that's another post.

P.P.S. I had this great dream the other night that I was co-writing a song with Sting. I would totally work with him again. It was such a great experience. ;)

P.P.P.S. Oprah's into Shaklee too. ;)

P.P.P.P.S. I'm hungry.

P.P.P.P.P.S. And yes, your purchase of Shaklee products from me makes an immediate contribution into the KLK Wayward Songwriter's Fund (ie, my bank account). ;)

Tres Femmes Reunion Tour

I was part of an amazing band, hailed by the St. Louis press as a "Midwestern Super Group." The band was Tres Femmes, featuring KLK, Victoria Vox, and Stolie. We had a great reunion tour this summer, after a 2 year break, and you can view photos and hear some of the tunes we played on our Tres Femmes Myspace Page .

I can't wait to go again - such talented women! I hope we get to tour together at least once a year. Stolie & Victoria Vox are both making headlines and new CDs, so make sure you visit their sites as well. ;)

New Music Recommendation

Hi Friends -

My fave songwriter & friend, Susan Werner, just came out with an amazing new "agnostic gospel album" called, "THE GOSPEL TRUTH". You can read my CD review for more ideas on what this record is about. You'll love it - I promise. ;)

You can visit Susan Werner on MySpace by clicking here.

Wow. ;) She's great. Let me know what you think of the record, once you've listened to it.

Cambridge, MA

The Cantab was great fun last night. I ran into a friend from MN who lives here now and we played "who are YOU still in touch with?" in the car after the show while I drove him home. I stayed with my pal, Jeff Wasilko - who ALSO happens to be an amazing photographer. Today, I'll be doing some yoga practice at the Baptiste Institute in Cambridge, and also checking in with fantabulous Boston songwriter, Carrie Cheron .

Hey - a shout out to musicians traveling through the Northeast, my friend and sometime booking agent, Mary MacKinnon Boyd, is looking for musicians to play her Starbuck's coffeehouse music series up in Concord, NH. You'll get $50 and free drinks in exchange for a two hour set. Check her out on her website if you've got interest.

I've got to run - it's time for MORE hot yoga with Baron Baptiste. Tomorrow I'll fly to MN for one day - my favorite songwriter SUSAN WERNER is playing a show there, and I'll be selling CDs for her. Come on out & say hi, if you're nearby. Susan puts on quite the show! She'll be joined by SPENCER DAY .

More soon,
KLK

New Hampshire

LIVE FREE OR DIE. That's the phrase on every New Hampshire license plate. ;)

But I LOVE coming here.

Yesterday afternoon, after playing a coffeehouse show in Concord, I was able to connect with a friend of mine (Amy Putnam) from up near the NH/MA border. Maybe you know her? She's a mover & a shaker, AND an amazing human being - a very talented photographer & web designer & stained glass artist. She gave me the news that she's taking steps to become a Marine Educator. She has decided to become actively involved in what's really happening out there. If you know anyone in this field, please feel free to contact Amy through her LIVE JOURNAL to share what you know. It is a competitive field, but Amy's a natural, and I know the universe will help her as she makes her way with this.

This morning, I drove out Sewall's Falls on the Merrimack River with my two good friends, Andy & Mary. In the summer, we jump in fully clothed and sing and do water yoga and make terrible fools of ourselves. In the winter, we just make terrible fools of ourselves on land. ;) It's lovely to be so close to Boston (my true love), and yet so close to such natural beauty.

Last night we watched "THE SECRET" (full length feature film - you must see!) online. WATCH IT hereand then write to me and tell me whatcha think.

I've got to get down to Cambridge now for some yoga, and for my show at the CANTAB this evening, hosted by the fabulous GEOFF BARTLEY .

DUET with SUSAN WERNER

I was lucky enough to be invited out to Massachusetts to perform with Susan Werner at The Circle of Friends Coffeehouse in Franklin. Special thanks to Jake Jacobsen for inviting me!

During my opening set, Susan came out and played piano on one of my favorite standards, "Old Cape Cod". You can hear the live duet at www.myspace.com/kellielin . Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Susan, for playing and for permission to post the duet! Such fun!

Love,
Kel

Stephanie Miller

Is anyone else getting tired of the "cut & run" accusations coming from the right regarding the stance that we should redeploy or entirely remove our soldiers from Iraq? Or the suggestion that anyone who'd like our soldiers home safely vs. tortured/killed does not support the troups? I've got an idea for ya, if you're feeling this frustration too. Tune in to STEPHANIE MILLER.

I've recently begun listening to Stephanie Miller, a nationally syndicated talkshow host from the Jones Radio Network. Here in Madison, WI, she's got airtime on the MIC 92.1 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. I LOVE this woman and her show. She's hilarious **and** well informed. Check her out at www.stephaniemiller.com. Tell your friends to tell their friends to tune in.

Love,
Kel
